North Clay cross country finishes second at WIC meet

NASHVILLE -- The South Vermillion Wildcats claimed the Junior High Western Indiana Conference cross country meets on Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats got individual wins from Emily Vitaniemi in the girls' race and Michael Mest in the boys' race to edge out North Clay in both meets.

Mest won the boys' race in 10:20 to edge out the Knights' Nic Yocom, who was the runner-up in a time of 10:34. Ian Heffner was third for North Clay with a time of 10:59.

Bryce Toppas placed 11th in 11:58 followed by Colton Hogue in 17th in 12:08. Brendan Morris was 18th in 12:13 followed by Paul Dickison in 22nd in 12:25 followed by Kade Chastain in 28th in 13:06.

In the girls' race, Vitaniemi ran a time of 12:40 to win the race as North Clay's Emily Conrad was close behind in third-place with a time of 12:46. Kourtney Clark raced to a fourth-place in 12:47.

Raegan Brown placed 12th for the girls in 13:43 with Kaysia Reberger in 14th with a time of 13:49. Olivia Howald placed 15th in 13:52, Maeghan Pilman was 21st in 14:55 and Eileen Stinnett took 22nd in 15:01.

In the open race, Josua Johnson led the way in eighth in 13:52 with Brittany Fagg in 11th in 14:13. Joey Hartley placed 15th in 14:52, Lexi Williams was 16th in 14:58, Leeanna Knight took 17th in 15:03, Tori Tilley was 21st in 15:44, Molly Powell was 30th in 16:31 and Dakota Stevenson placed 37th in 18:38.
