Monte Krauchi, 58, Clay City, passed away at Methodist Hospital Oct. 21, following a long term illness.
He was born April 15, 1950, to Richard and Margaret (Stunkard) Krauchi.
He graduated from Clay City High School with the class of 1968 and was very active in sports.
Following high school he worked at their family's grocery store. He served in in the Terre Haute 181st Camron Air National Guard of Indiana and as a Reserve of the Air Force from 1968-1974. He also worked in construction for the Indiana Department of Transportation and retired after 21 years from the Wabash River Station of Cinergy PSI. He was baptized Oct.28, 2007, by the former Rev. Harold Thomas of the Friendly Grove Baptist Church in Lewis, Ind., and regularly attended the Clay City First United Methodist Church. He was a lifetime member of the Terre Haute American Legion Post No. 340 and served as the Chaplain of the Clay City VFW Post No. 6606. He played and coach in many area adult softball leagues. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports and being outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his brother Wade Krauchi, Bamberg, Germany, and a loving and devoted friend, Catherine Hansens, Jasonville.
Visitation will be at the Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, Clay City, Thursday, from 4-8 p.m., with funeral services following Friday at 2 p.m., with Rev. Steve Rundell officiating. Burial will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local chapter of Alcohol Anonymous.
