The Van Buren Homemakers met Oct. 15 at the Baptist Church with Evelyn Nevin as hostess. She gave the blessing for lunch.

Evelyn opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and the club creed. Marcia Davis gave devotions, "Summers End" and "Faith Sense." Five members were present for roll call, Virginia Phillips, Leah Rae McMichael, Myrna Schrader, Evelyn and Marcia, also one guest Mary Hendrickson. Secretary and treasurer report were given and approved. Song of the month sung. Happy Birthday to Virginia.

Indiana Homemakers week is Oct. 28. Evelyn reminded members of lessons they signed up for. Dorothy Plunkett will furnish four dozen cookies. For the 4-H Achievement Program. Evelyn gave the leader lesson "soups made from scratch." She served two of the soups for our lunch, hamburger soup and broccoli cheese soup, both were very good.

Meeting closed with the club prayer. Myrna gave a fall Halloween contest won by Leah Rae.

Delta Theta Tau Sorority, Inc.

Linda Sheese, Presdent of the local Alpha mega Chapter, Delta Theta Tau Sorority, Inc. announced today that their sorority this year will give $15,000 on the national level for Educational Grants for specialized training in Guidance Counseling.

Grants are awarded to students at the graduate level, based upon their scholastic ability and financial need. Anyone interested in an application may write to Delta Theta Tau Sorority, Inc., Philanthropy Committee Chairman, R.R. No. 5, Box 73H, Bloomfield, Ind., 47424-9533

A SASE must accompany all requests for applications. Applications are reviewed by the Philanthropy Committee of the sorority in February each year. Applications for the summer session of 2009 or the Academic year of 2009-10 must be postmarked no later than Dec. 10, 2008.

Delta Theta Tau Sorority has been associated with this project since 1959 and has given a total of $544,044 to 677 individual students throughout the United States. Locally, Scott McDonald of Harmony, and Jonna Anacker of Brazil, are past recipients of these grants.


Come help the Clay County Extension Homemakers celebrate Indiana Homemakers week, Oct. 28, 6:30 p.m. held at the Clay County Fair Grounds. Our guest speaker will be Sue Berg. Sue presents a lesson, "Mug'ems-Recipes in a Mug." Jean Rowing, chairman of the event extends an invitation to all. Open to anyone, you don't have to be a member to attend.
