Those interested are asked to help the Clay County Extension Homemakers celebrate Indiana Homemakers, Tuesday, at 6:30 p.m., at the Clay County Fairgrounds.
Jean Rowing, chairman of the event, extends an invitation to all. Interested participants do not have to be members of the club to attend. For more information, call 765-653-6053.
The guest speaker will be Sue Berg, who will present "Mug'ems-Recipes in a Mug."

Trunk or Treat
The Trunk and Treat Halloween alternative will take place Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 6-8 p.m., at the Forest Park "cow palace."
The event is free for all families.

The American Legion Post 2 will conduct its annual Halloween costume contest Thursday, at 6 p.m.
All are invited to compete. The contest is scheduled to begin at 6:15 p.m.
Refreshments will be provided and candy will be handed out.

Halloween at the YMCA
The YMCA of Clay County will offer a Halloween event for youngsters Saturday, Nov. 1, from 6-8 p.m., at the YMCA, 226 E. Kruzan St., Brazil.
Activities will include games, crafts and costume contests.

Property tax notice
The fall installment of property tax will be due Monday, Nov. 10, 2008.
The normal business hours for the Clay County Treasurer's Office are Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. The office will be closed on Tuesday, Nov. 4, for Election Day.
The Treasurer's Office will have the following extended office hours:
* Friday, Nov. 7, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.,
* Saturday, Nov. 8, 8 a.m.-noon, and
* Monday, Nov. 10, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
Fall tax payments will also be accepted at First Financial Bank with a tax statement.
In the upcoming weeks, the City of Brazil will be picking up leaves.
Pickups on the north side of town will take place Nov. 3-10, while pickups on the south side of town will be Monday-Oct. 31, Nov. 3-7 and Nov. 11-17.
Also, from Nov. 18-24 and Nov. 25-Dec.8, the city will be accepting calls for individual pickups.

Staunton Food Pantry
Until further notice, the Staunton Community Food Pantry at the Staunton United Methodist Church will be open only the last Wednesday of each month.
However, due to the holidays, it will be open the last Tuesday of the month in November and December.
The schedule is as follows:
* 2008 -- Wednesday, Oct. 29, Tuesday, Nov. 25, Tuesday, Dec. 30, and
* 2009 -- Wednesday, Jan. 29, Wednesday, Feb. 25, and March 25.

The Harmony United Methodist Church, 10195 N. Vine St., Harmony, will have a homecoming celebration with a Jonah Fish Fry on Sunday, Nov. 9, from noon-3 p.m.
Myron James will speak at a worship and celebration service at 4 p.m., honoring the 150 years of the church.
Due to the new deputy hiring process, the Clay County Sheriff's Merit Board will meet Nov. 10 rather than Nov. 3.
Veteran's Program Scheduled
Clay County residents are invited to attend Van Buren Elementary School's Veteran's Day program, scheduled to take place from 10-11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 10, at the Van Buren Elementary gymnasium.
The school will be welcoming and honoring anyone who has served or is serving in any branch of the United States Armed Forces.
The school is also extending an invitation for those who plan on attending to stay and have lunch provided by the school.

'Festival of Trees'
The St. Vincent Clay Hospital Foundation has scheduled the fifth annual "Festival of Trees," for 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 15.
The event will take place at the Clay County 4-H Fairgrounds. Cost is $30 per person or $240 for a reserved table of eight.
Tickets are available for purchase by calling St. Vincent Clay Hospital at 442-2740.
Refreshments will be served and a silent auction will take place.
The Dick Johnson Volunteer Fire Department will conduct its annual bean dinner from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 2, at the firehouse, located at CR 1200 N and 200 W.
Freewill donations will be accepted.
