TERRE HAUTE --Basketball season got underway on Tuesday night as North Clay's sixth-grade team opened with a pair of road victories.
The Knights' "White Team" downed cruised to a victory against West Vigo's "A" team, 33-15 and North Clay's "Black Team" won convincingly, 35-4 over the Vikings' "B" team.
"It was a great way to open the season," commented coach Joey Bennett. "We had great defensive pressure and forced a lot of turnovers. We have a very unselfish group."
In the opening victory, Joe Ball topped the team with 11 points and Derek Mills added 10. Damon Bass poured in six for North Clay with Paul Dickison, Kade Carter and Gaddis Baysinger all scoring two apiece.
In the "Black" team's victory, Kurtis Yocom led a balanced attack with nine points and Blake Mershon scored eight. Seth Payton and Zene Colson both had six and Jacob Harden, Skyler Aguilar and Keegan Roembke had two apiece.
