On Monday, an unidentified caller reported a suspicious man standing around an area near the corner of Leavitt Street and Central Ave. to the Brazil City Police Department around 9:45 p.m.
Patrolman John Goldner responded to the call and discovered Thomas Auterson, 44, Carbon, in the reported area acting nervous.
Goldner spoke with Auterson, who was apparently unable to stand or keep his hands still by the officer's report of the incident.
During a pat down search on the suspect, Goldner reported locating a cigarette package containing three small Baggies with a crystal substance that field-tested positive as methamphetamine, an item used as a smoking pipe and a storage container.
Auterson was taken into custody and transported to the Clay County Justice Center. He was booked on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.
Facing a $7,000 cash bond with 10 percent allowed, jail officials confirmed Auterson is awaiting formal arraignment per the court calendar while the Clay County Prosecutor's Office reviews the case.

Right back at you ~ you always have my vote ~ !!
OMG......That is one of the best non-verbal tongue lashing, truth spewing, literary goldness I have ever witnessed. You go on with your bad self Brono921....if you ever run for President or Mayor, you got my vote. You too karebabe!!!!
Karebabe, our "friend" Lee seems to suggest that Thomas Auterson is the rule rather than the exception when it comes to representing Clay County. This prejudiced opinion flies in the face of all available facts regarding the plague of crystal meth throughout all of the United States, and centers it squarely on a single mid-western town . To describe such an opinion simply as being ignorant overlooks the obvious bigotry in which Lee subscribes. An individual such as he has no use for facts. Intellectually, Lee is sitting on the corner of Leavitt and Central Avenue, confused and to weak to stand.

I agree ~ I am not a meth head & I do reside in Clay County ~ not to mention all of my friends are of the same description ~ Lee Thall obviously isn't pleased with living here in Clay County ~ maybe he should move?!?!?
Two things, Lee.
First one: Not everyone in Clay County is a meth addict.
Second: Not everyone who is a meth addict is from Clay County, Indiana.
That tip comes free of charge from the "Buy yourself a clue" foundation.
Another fine looking Clay County specimen. They just keep coming.
Good job Goldner... keep up the good work!
Thanks KB!
Emmes ~ maybe the pat down was the result of Auterson not being able to stand still ~ ever seen anyone on meth?? That to me would signal at the minimum public intoxication ~ it isn't limited to alcohol ~ & loitering on a city street at his age?? Seems suspicious to me ~ my original comment stands ~ great job BPD!
Sassy ~ Book 'em Johno ~ good one!!
Ok, I'm VERY glad we are getting the Meth-heads off the streets .. but I'm a bit puzzled at the chain of events that happened. Since WHEN is it a crime to "stand around nervously" and WHAT justified a "pat down" of this man?
Before the "She's for the druggies of Clay County" people jump my rear .. if this was not a legal search .. this guy will walk. THAT is my point .. not that he is/is not innocent.
Book 'em Johno!
Great job, John!
BPD's the best!
Another great job BPD ~ keep those arrests coming!
Thanks John for a job well done. Also, thanks to the caller for looking out not only for themselves, but for those of us in the area as well.
Way to go Johnny!! I sleep better at night knowing that you're out there keeping Brazil safe. You're my Hero!!
