Commander to speak at program

American Legion Post No. 2, 1015 S. Forest Ave., Brazil, will conduct a program Tuesday in honor of Veterans Day.

Capt. Laura K. Pratt will be the guest speaker at the program.

The program is scheduled to take place at the Clay County Courthouse and will begin at 11 a.m.

Pratt is a commander in the 138th Quartermaster Support Company in Brazil. She enlisted in the 13th Army Band in North Miami, Fla., in December 1996.

In 1998, she moved to Indianapolis, and in 2001, left the 38th Infantry Division Band to enter full time service in the Indiana National Guard. In April 2002, she earned a director appointment as a Second Lieutenant.

She is a graduate of the resident US Army Transportation Officer Basic Course, the reserve component Quartermaster Officer Advanced Course and the resident Army Logistics Management College Combined Logistics Captain's Career Course. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in music from Illinois State University in 1996.

She has earned the Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak leaf Clusters (OLC), the Army Commendation Medal with two OLC, the Army Achievement Medal with one OLC, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with "M" Device, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

Pratt was born in Greencastle and grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. She resides in Indianapolis.
