Basketball players finally got an opportunity to see a team in a different color uniform this weekend as girls' team hosted exhibitions around the state.

The Northview Knights hosted Linton for its scrimmage and as you might expect from the first 'game' action of the season, there were ups and downs to the play on the court for Northview.

Perhaps the most impressive display by the Knights was the half court defense that fueled most of Northview's points against the Miners.

In a scrimmage that saw the teams play five quarters with a running clock, Northview's pressured Linton into several early turnovers that allowed the Miners to jump out to a quick 6-0 lead on three quick hoops by senior Spring Raines.

But Northview's half court offense struggled to produce good looks early on.

The Knights' kept the Miners off the board until late in the period where Northview outscored Linton 12-5.

Kelsey Searing came off the bench and scrapped her way to three quick rebounds to go with two apiece from Carlee Bell and Emily Phillips.

The Knights aren't blessed with a lot of height so their guards will be required to hustle and battle for the extra loose balls. That was readily apparent in the scrimmage as Searing topped the squad with eight boards and Raines added four.

Northview edged the Miners in each of the quarters on the way to scoring 50 points to the Miners 18.

Defense sparked a late flurry in the third period as the starters picked up full court pressure on the Miners who turned the ball over twice late, leading to Northview lay-ins.

Shelby Colson brought the crowd to its feet by draining a 3-pointer at the horn for the Knights.

Raines led the team in scoring with 17 points, Bell scored six and Phillips added five. Ali Sharton contributed four.

In the final period, the Knights got their reserves a full period of play and four different players scored a basket apiece. Sharton, Chelsey Sampson, Searing and Lauren Webster tallied her final hoop of a four-point night. Sampson also had three rebounds and a block.

The Knights open their season on Thursday night when they face West Vigo on the Vikings' home court for the Clabber Girl Classic Tourney.
