Fred was born Nov. 26, 1930, in Clay City, as the son of Fred R. and Ernestine Hines Brown.
Following graduation from high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served until his honorable discharge on Aug. 15, 1951.
He married MaryAnn Grandberry Aug. 16, 1951.
Fred was a charter member of the Jackson Township Fire Department, a member of the American Legion Post 2, United Auto Workers Union and St. Paul Lutheran Church.
He worked for General Motors for 32 years until his retirement. He had also worked for Pinkerton Security.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, NASCAR, spending time socializing with friends at Hardees and Wal-Mart. He loved being with his family and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife MaryAnn, brother Gary Brown and great-grandchildren Vannessa Robinson and Keera Snoddy.
He is survived by sons Charles "Charlie" Brown and wife Peggy, Larry Brown and Phillip Brown, daughters Peggy Ricks and Fleta VanNess and husband Tim, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at Moore Funeral Home.
Services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, at the funeral home, with burial with military honors to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Clay City.
