The Brazil Breakfast Optimists meet on Saturday mornings at 7:30 a.m. for breakfast and 8 a.m. for the meeting. The meetings are held at the Brazil American Legion Post #2 on SR59.

The public is welcome to join us and listen to our guest speakers.

We usually have speakers discussing various subjects from Boy Scouts to history of Brazil, new businesses in town and interesting projects being developed around town.

Community projects that the Optimist Club is involved in include the Respect for Law camp, which is held in June. Last year of the 135 elementary students attending the camp at Vincennes, 71 of them were from Clay County. Our local club helps defray the expenses for the local attendees. We also sponsor a Junior Golf tournament in July. We have young golfers attend from around the state for golf, dinner, and a swim party. Local businesses help sponsor some the goodies. We also hang the Christmas decorations around town the Saturday before Thanksgiving. The Duke Energy crew also helps us with this project and we like to provide them with their breakfasts.

The major fundraiser for our youth projects is being held at the present time. We are taking orders for Poinsettias. They cost $10 and will be delivered on Dec. 4-5. Orders from churches will be delivered closer to Christmas. Call Ken Turner at 446-8495 or Rita Rothrock, our current president, at 448-2972 if you want to place an order. They are beautiful red plants.

The week of Thanksgiving we will also begin collecting for the Clothe-A-Child drive. We will be collecting at Kroger's on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, the Saturday and Sunday after Thanksgiving and on the following Friday and Saturday. We will be shopping for the clothes on Dec. 7.

Volunteers are needed to help shop on this day.

Call Rita or Ken to volunteer.
