Mr. Charles E. "Charlie" Gibbs

Mr. Charles E. "Charlie" Gibbs, 69, Lawrence, Ind., formerly of Thorntown, Ind., passed away Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at 4:03 p.m., at Indiana Heart Hospital, Indianapolis.

Mr. Gibbs was born in Boone County, Ind., Oct. 12, 1939, the son of the late John E. Gibbs and Rhea Alice (Ramsey) Gibbs-Foreman.

Mr. Gibbs was a 1957 graduate of Kirklin High School and later served in the National Guard.

He was married on Nov. 24, 2004, in Marion County, Ind., to Linda (Flowers) Ross-Gibbs. Mrs. Gibbs survives.

Mr. Gibbs started working for Rock Island Refinery of Indianapolis in 1959 and retired in January 1995 as a foreman. He had also worked for Pete Radar for a number of years.

Mr. Gibbs was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and enjoyed his children and grandchildren. Mr. Gibbs was an avid sports fan with a special interest in auto racing.

He has attended every Indianapolis 500 since 1957. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and going fishing. He was a member of the AH Club of Indianapolis, Lebanon Eagles, Frankfort Knights of Columbus and the Indian Preservation Society Alert.

He was preceded in death by his parents John E. Gibbs and Rhea Alice (Ramsey) Gibbs-Foreman.

Mr. Gibbs is survived by his wife Mrs. Linda Ross-Gibbs, Lawrence, Ind., son Charles W. "Chuck" Gibbs, Thorntown, Ind., daughters Peggy L. Gibbs, Florida, and Kelley C. Webster, Carbon, three step-children Mashonda R. Chappell and husband, Damascus C. Chappell, Tashi S. Woodfork, and Danisha R. Woodfork and husband, Roger Major, Sr., all of Indianapolis, sister Shirley Carroll and husband, Robert, Lebanon, Ind., two brothers James A. Gibbs, Powder Springs, Ga., and John R. Gibbs, Williamsport, Ind., two grandchildren Adrian M. Mullenix, Center Point, and Jimmy Edens, Lebanon, Ind., six step-grandchildren Brittani Woodfork , Malik Zinermon, Karma Bates, Nigel Evans, Heaven Major and Roger Major, Jr., all of Indianapolis, six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and beloved family dog Dominaque Anastasia Gibbs.

Services are planned for 1 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008,with Rev. Dennis McConnaughhay officiating, at Post Road Christian Church, 1122 N. Post Rd., Indianapolis. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lebanon. Visitation will be held at Myers Mortuary, Lebanon, from 4-8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 17, 2008. Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association.
