He was born Nov. 23, 1933, in Clay City, to Samuel and Irene (Beatty) Miller.
He attended Clay City High School and later served his country in the United States Army.
He married Loretta Ruth Kress on March 30, 1956, in Indianapolis.
Russell worked for IBM for 31 years, retiring in 1987. He was also a coin collector and often traveled around the Midwest collecting and selling coins as well as attending National Numismatic Conventions.
Mr. Miller was a founding member of Angel Falls Water Company and often helped his son at Miller's IGA. He enjoyed fishing for catfish and mushroom hunting. He especially enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and watching them participate in sports.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother George Miller.
Survivors include his wife Loretta Ruth Miller, children Debbie Brothers and husband Jerry, Lana Reed and husband Jeff, Lora Alsip and husband Gary, Russ Miller and wife Lori, and Amy Barnhart and husband Nick, grandchildren Eric Alsip, Jennifer Alsip, Emily Reed, Stephanie Granger, Abby Reed, Sloan Miller, Allie Miller, Claire Miller, and Lynlee Barnhart, brother Don Miller and wife Melissa, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Services will be at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Steve Rundel officiating.
Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, from 4-8 p.m.
