Knights hit the road for win over Panthers

Tuesday, November 18, 2008

Staff Report

MONTEZUMA -- The Northview Knights jumped out to a comfortable lead early against Riverton Parke on the way to a 45-30 road win on Tuesday night.

The Knights allowed just seven first half points while building a 22-7 advantage, but coach LuAnne Anderson wasn't exactly thrilled with the results after the break.

"This was a very ugly game for us tonight," said Anderson. "We never seemed to get our intensity level to where it needed to be. We again, jumped out to a nice start and then dropped off as the game progressed.

One area where Anderson did see positives was in a defense that forced a large number of Panther turnovers.

"Our defense did a nice job on the press, forcing Riverton Parke into 27 turnovers for the game."

The Knights also got a 14-point, 13 rebound game from Spring Raines with Kirstin Kimball adding seven points along with Carlee Bell.

Though they only got to the line 15 times in the game, Anderson was also pleased with her team's shooting from the charity stripe.

"Our team free throw percentage was much improved compared to last game," said the first-year Knights' coach.

"We have two really tough opponents coming up this week in Mooresville and Terre Haute South. We need to focus on composure and handling pressure," said Anderson of the Knights' next two opponents.

Northview (2-1 overall) hosts Mooresville on Thursday night beginning with a 6 p.m. JV game.
