The Northview Knights got their annual opportunity to match-up with perennial sectional contener Mooresville on Thursday night and for much of the first half were within striking distance.

From there however, it was too much Pioneer pressure and too much Jama Sharp.

Sharp scored a career-high 36 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Mooresville pulled away for a 74-40 victory.

"They've got some quality players," said Northview coach LuAnne Anderson. "But you can't expect to beat a team of that caliber when you don't finish on the inside."

Over the first 12 minutes of the game, the Knights stayed within striking distance, trailing just 20-12 midway through the second period. Northview's defense kept the Pioneers close despite 13 first half turnovers by the Knights.

Northview held Mooresville to just six-of-15 shooting in the first half, but the Knights struggled themselves, hitting only six-of-24 shots, many of them quality shots.

"In the first half we had 10 missed, point blank shots," said Anderson. That's 20 points and if we hit those we were leading at halftime.

As it was, the Knights trailed 33-15 as Sharp took over the second quarter, grabbing six rebounds and scoring 13 points. Her play helped spark a 13-0 run by Mooresville that enabled them to open up what was just and eight-point advantage.

In the third quarter, the Knights held Sharp to only four points, but 6'1 junior Maegan Calloway dominated the boards with nine of her team-high 10 rebounds. She also added eight points.

Meanwhile, Northview was held to just a 3-pointer from Stormi Raines, a fieldgoal from Spring Raines and a free throw from Shelby Colson. Mooresville forced seven turnovers in the period and extended its lead to 50-21.

Northview had some fight left in the tank during the fourth quarter as Spring Raines knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, part of a 26-point game.

An 8-3 run to start the quarter narrowed the gap to 53-29, but Sharp began putting the finishing touches on her big night with 11 points down the stretch to salt the game away.

Shelby Colson had six rebounds for the Knights and Kirstin Kimball added four in the game.

The Northview JV dropped a 46-10 decision as Darcy Bass and Alyssa Conrad had five points each.

The Knights (2-2 overall) travel to Terre Haute South to take on fifth-ranked Terre Haute South on Saturday night at 6 p.m.
