As the steam flows off the grean beans and butter slips across the mashed potatoes when you finally get a chance to take a seat at the dinner table Thursday, remember to be thankful for everything.
Remember those who haven't had it as lucky as you.
I know I will.
Thanksgiving has always been an opportunity for my family to get together and spend an afternoon and most of the evening with each other, talking, laughing, etc.
Things changed last year as it was the first Thanksgiving without my grandmother.
While that was difficult initially to take, time has helped heal wounds.
The memories will always remain. I remember sneaking into the kitchen as a child while she prepared the meal. She couldn't stand being bothered when she was cooking.
It was always fun to bug her.
But as I said before, time helps heals wounds and the memories will remain.
But take time out Thursday to be thankful for everything you have and keep in mind not everyone is as fortunate.
I am thankful that I finally found that special person. That person that I know I want to spend the rest of my life with. That person that I know I want to share everything with.
I am also thankful that -- despite giving me fits on a regular basis -- I have arguably the cutest puppy alive.
There are several out there that don't have things quite as easy as myself or others.
They are the ones we need to take time to remember. They need help.
Take time out of your busy schedules, if you can.
Help out someone in need.
Remember to open that door for the person who is getting ready to leave the store or has a handful of groceries.
Take time out to volunteer.
Take time out to say I love you.
