The following is a list of upcoming events and announcements provided to The Brazil Times:

No more ashes

Due to safety issues, the Brazil City Sanitation Department will no longer pick up ashes from fireplaces, stoves or wood-burning stoves.

Afghans for sale

The Clay County Historical Society still has a few of the Clay County afghans available for sale. They are available for purchase Monday-Friday, from 1-4 p.m.

City Hall Closed

Due to the Thanksgiving Holiday, Brazil City Hall will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 27-28, and will reopen Monday, Dec. 1.

The Sanitation Department will also be closed the same two days and will be picking up normal Wednesday and Thursday routes on Wednesday.

Thanksgiving dinner

The 23rd First Baptist Church Thanksgiving Day Dinner will take place at 1 p.m., Nov. 27.

The event will take place at the church, located at 413 S. Walnut St., Brazil.

All are invited to attend at no charge.

Delivery will be available to shut-ins in the Brazil area.

Toys for Tots benefit set

Shaw Chiropractic will host the 10th "Toys for Tots" collection event the week of Dec. 1.

Between the hours of 9 a.m.-6 p.m., the office will accept new, unwrapped toys to be given to the annual Marine Corp. Reserve "Toys for Tots."

The toys will be distributed in Brazil under the supervision of the Clay County Christmas Assistance Program.

The office is located at 78 Forest Park Plaza.

Meeting scheduled

The Clay County Historical Society will meeting Dec. 1, at 7 p.m., in the lower level of the museum.

The special guest speaker will be Harley Sheets from Danville.

He will be there to discuss postcards.

Country Christmas

A Country Christmas celebration will take place Nov. 28-30 and Dec. 5-7 in Bridgeton.

Hours are 9 a.m.-8 p.m., Friday and Saturday, and 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday, during both weekends.

Holiday Fair

The Area 7 Agency on Aging and Disabled will conduct a Holiday Information Fair and Party from noon-4 p.m., Dec. 6, at the William Penn Lodge No. 727, 2215 Garfield Ave., Terre Haute.

The event is free to seniors (50-older). Door prizes, refreshments, Karaoke, prizes and the game "Let's Make A Deal," will be featured.

More prizes will be available and those interested in attending must be present to sign up but do not have to be present to win.

Learn to make wreaths

Learn to gather and process natural materials to make different shaped wreaths at the Bloomfield Public Library Dec. 6.

From 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., those interested in attending will combine sticks, twigs, grasses, flowers, seeds and evergreens with other embellishments to create unique wreaths for the home.

All materials will be provided but those attending are asked to bring pliers, scissors and gloves.

Christmas Ball!

The public is invited to the 17th annual Christmas Ball and Debutante Presentation on Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Fife Opera House, Palestine, Ill.

Young ladies are presented to society in the style of the 1860s at 7 p.m.

The Christmas Ball begins after with light refreshments, dancing and live music with Bales of Hay from Mt. Carmel, Ill., at 7:30 p.m.

Learn how to Waltz and do the Virginia Reel at 8 p.m. Dancing continues until 10 p.m.

The ball benefits the Palestine Preservation Society.

Tickets are $5 at the door.

Home Tour prepared

Tri Kappa's annual Home Tour will take place Dec. 7. Advanced tickets are now on sale for $5.

A chicken and noodle dinner will also take place Dec. 7 at First Presbyterian Church, Brazil.

Advanced tickets are on sale now, costing $6 for adults and $4 for children 3-12.

Crop time!

On Monday, Dec. 29, the R.E.I.N. Center Communiy Library, Clay City, will conduct the "Soup-er Crop Monday," from 9 a.m.-9 p.m.

The day will be filled with scrapbooking. There will be ample cropping space, goodie bags, door prizes, vendors, snacks and beverages.

Lunch will consist of soup and local restaurants will provide discount coupons for dinner.

Registration is required and cost is $20. Space is limited.

Fundraiser scheduled

Clay County Habitat for Humanity will have a fundraiser at Pizza Hut the second Friday of each month from 4-8 p.m.

Coupons are available from any Habitat member or by just mentioning Habitat for Humanity when making qualified purchases.

Food needed

The Cunot Food Pantry is currently conducting a Holiday Food Drive for people who need food for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The food pantry is currently in need of non-perishable food items.
