But recently, she was ready to take on a new challenge.
Short recently took the position of office manager for the Clay County Chamber of Commerce, Inc. She replaced Lisa Watler, who recently left the position due to health reasons.
"For the last 20 years, I've just been a mom," Short told The Brazil Times. "I heard about (the opening) through the grapevine and it sounded like a fun job."
She is married to Doug Short, part owner of Technifab. They reside in Brazil with their four sons, ages 17, 15, 9 and 6.
Kathy graduated from Speedway High School but has lived in Brazil for approximately 13 years.
She has served on various boards within the community, including the Clay County Foundation.
This is her first time working for a Chamber of Commerce.
She said she hopes to add to the Chambers list of fundraising events in the future.
"I'm hoping to come up with a new fundraiser," she said.
The Chamber office, located at 535 National Ave., Brazil, is open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m.-noon.
