After more than a decade of service in the postal business, a Brazil native was recently rewarded with a major promotion.
On Oct. 9, Cathy Greenwell was informed she would be taking over as the new Postmaster of the Post Office in Staunton.
Prior to the promotion, Greenwell has 13 years of postal service experience, working two years at the office on Margaret Ave. in Terre Haute, and 11 years as a window clerk in Brazil.
Greenwell, who resides in Brazil with husband Rick, said it took her awhile to adjust to the responsibilities of her new position. Aside from running the window, she is also in charge of money orders, stamps, and placing items in P.O. Boxes.
"It's been a big adjustment," Greenwell said of her additional job tasks. "Sometimes it feels like I have my hands in three or four fires."
As the holidays approach, Greenwell strongly encouraged members of the community to make use of the Staunton Post Office for various shipping needs. She also encouraged children to get their Santa letters in as quickly as possible.
Despite the initial adjustment, Greenwell said she was delighted with her promotion and was excited to be warmly welcomed into the Staunton community.
"I'm really happy," Greenwell said about her new job. "It's been exciting to work with and to get to know the people in the community, who have welcomed me with open arms. It's been great."
