Road conditions worsen

Tuesday, December 16, 2008

Officials urge motorists to avoid driving as weather conditions create hazardous driving conditions.

"It's treacherous out here," Clay County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Rob Gambill told The Brazil Times while responding to one of many accident reports throughout the county. "Motorists need to use caution and slow down."

While county roads are quickly being covered with patches of frozen sleet and snow, Brazil City Police Chief Dave Archer said motorists need to pay attention to intersections on inclines and hilly areas.

"We've had vehicles attempting to stop slide into traffic in these areas," Archer said. "People need to drive according to the weather conditions, use caution and slow down."

Officials at the Putnamville Indiana State Police post said both lanes of Interstate-70 were littered with numerous accidents due to it being covered with a "sheet of ice."
