She was born Feb. 4, 1927, in Vigo County, the daughter of Roy and Maude Ringo Stearley.
As a young girl, they moved to Clay County and she attended the Vinegar Hill grade school. She graduated from Brazil High School, Class of 1945. In 1948, she married her sweetheart, Wayne Mace. They met at the Stearleyville Store and later were married.
Nila was a lifelong member of the St. John's United Church of Christ. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years.
She enjoyed playing the piano, singing, cooking and most of all, spending time with her family. She loved to cook special treats for her children and grandchildren and lately, for her great-grandson.
Survivors include her son Daniel Mace and wife Vickie, Brazil, daughter Mary Bowen, Washington, Ind., grandchildren Melanie Mace, Danielle Mae Mace and Stephen Bowen, great-grandson Bronson Daniel Burk, brother Jim Stearley and wife Mary K., Center Point, nephews Kirby Stearley and Vince Stearley and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1985, and brother Bob Stearley.
Services will take place Saturday at 2 p.m., at the St. John's United Church of Christ, with Rev. Ted Schory officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday one hour prior to services at the church.
