Barbara L. Reeves, 77, Greencastle, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at the Putnam County Hospital, after a sudden medical emergency.
She was born at home on April 30, 1931, to Paul F. and L. DeMoine (Herbert) Nees, one-mile east of Poland (Owen County), Ind. She attended both Jordan and Cunot schools and graduated from Cloverdale High School in 1949. After graduation, she moved to Indianapolis and worked for American States Insurance Company for a short while. She married Herschel H. Reeves on Feb. 29, 1956, and had two children Paul H. (stillborn October 1957) and Cindy L. They were divorced in 1990, but remained friendly.
Barbara had also worked for Cato's and Mallory's in Greencastle, and McDonald's and Hardee's in Cloverdale. She retired from Wendy's in Greencastle in 1996 after serving as a hostess for five years. Lifetime hobbies included playing cards, fishing, working jigsaw puzzles and attending bluegrass music events.
She attended Otter Creek Regular Predestinarian Baptist Church in Lena, Amity Baptist Church in Cloverdale and Cornerstone Baptist Church in Cloverdale.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, sister Irma Colleen Nees, brother Earl P. Nees, a son and ex-husband.
She is survived by her daughter Cindy L. Little and husband Alvin, Greencastle, and grandson Nathan E. Reeves, Cataract.
Services will be Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008 at 3 p.m., at Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale, with visitation from 1-3 p.m., Saturday. Interment will be in Cloverdale Cemetery. Family friend, and Barbara's former pastor, Tim Tesmer will conduct the services.
