The Indiana State Police released more details about a traffic accident during Tuesday evening's treacherous driving conditions that injured a detective of the Clay County Sheriff's Department.
According to investigating officer ISP Trooper Todd Brown, Det. Sgt. Jeff Maynard was injured in a rear-end collision on State Road 59 in an area near the entrance of Lake Shore Estates.
Maynard was driving northbound when James L. Reeves, 46, Brazil, struck his police cruiser from behind.
Reeves was not injured during the accident.
Brown said Reeves was cited for allegedly driving at a speed too fast for the weather/road conditions at the time of the accident and was also issued a warning for allegedly driving with his windshield obstructed (ice).
Brown estimated $3,000 worth of damage was done to the police cruiser and $10,000 damage was done to Reeves pick-up truck.
Maynard was initially transported to St. Vincent Clay Hospital, later taken to Union Hospital, Terre Haute, and then airlifted to Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, for neck and back injuries.
However, after concluding medical tests, doctors have allowed Maynard to return home to recuperate from injuries caused by the impact of the collision. See Monday's edition of The Brazil Times for a complete story.
