She was born Oct. 2, 1914, in Sylvania, Ala., as the daughter of William Alva and Frances Campbell Kernon.
Following graduation from high school, she married Roy Harrison Barnes on Sept. 30, 1938. He has preceded her in death.
Jackie was a loving mother and grandmother. She had been active as a Red Cross volunteer during World War II and was a member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority and the First Presbyterian Church of Brazil.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy, son Harry K. Barnes, and sisters Georgia Marshall, Sarah Rucks, Elsie Andrews, Maebelle McAlister, Ruth Pearl Kernon, Julia Traylor, Ellen Varnell and Gwenn Frederick.
She is survived by daughter Georgia Barnes, St. Paul, Minn., daughter-in-law Rita Jill Barnes, Brazil, grandchildren Tabitha Barnes, Woodbury, Minn., Lt. Jonathan Barnes USAF, Lynn Haven, Fla., Andrea Sluis and husband Kevin, Allen Texas, Brian Barnes, Brazil, Kernon Barnes and wife Nicole, Plainfield, and Sarah Gore and husband Martin, Terre Haute, and great-grandchildren Natalie and Graham Sluis, Jonas Barnes and Rebecca and Caroline Gore.
She is also survived by brother-in-law Virgil Frederick, Brazil, nieces Hildred and Melva Pyle and Dorothy Zimmerman, and nephews William Charles Traylor, Gene Andrews, Alva Jared Frederick and Steven Frederick.
At the request of the deceased, her body will be cremated. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at Moore Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m., at the funeral home, with Rev. Gary Scroggins officiating.
