Be safe this holiday

Sunday, December 28, 2008

Wednesday is one of the most anticpated holidays each year.

Every year, people get together and celebrate the turn of the calendar as a new year rolls in, along with music, dancing, fun, fun and more fun.

And sometimes, some of those people indulge a little too much.

No one wants anyone to not have a good time during the New Year's Eve holiday.

But everyone wants everyone to be safe and careful.

The editorial department at The Brazil Times doesn't want to have one full page of arrests in the paper this week.

For several years now, law enforcement has pushed commercials to the public about drinking and driving.

Simply put, drinking and driving don't mix.

And law enforcement agencies will be out and about New Year's Eve and into the weekend making sure people are obeying the law.

Brazil City Police Chief Dave Archer and Clay County Sheriff Mike Heaton both told The Brazil Times extra patrols will be out Wednesday.

Heaton added extra deputy patrols will be out throughout the weekend.

The laws are there for a reason. The law isn't there to make sure people have a bad time.

There's plenty of fun to be had. Just play it safe.

Have a great time on New Year's Eve.

But if you do decide to go out and drink, make sure you have a designated driver.

Everyone makes mistakes. But hopefully, no mistakes will be made Wednesday. Be careful.
