Joseph "Sonny" Earl Eaglin, 72, Brazil, passed away at his residence Dec. 29, 2008, following an extended illness.

He was born July 19, 1936, in Putnam Co., to Harry Sr. and Letha (Sutherlin) Eaglin.

As a young man Sonny worked at Saw Mills in Cloverdale, Martinsville and Reelsville. He married Florence Gorman Aug. 5, 1955. He also worked at American Vitrified and Greencastle Tile and then the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 157. Most recently he worked for Bells Plumbing and Heating in Brazil. He also had a trash route that he worked for many years in the Brazil area. He enjoyed playing cards, dancing and spending time with family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Letha Eaglin.

Survivors include his wife Florence, children Earl Eaglin Jr., Florida, Anita Eaglin and Gary Searcy, Terre Haute, Diana Kalsi, Quincy, Mich., Terry Eaglin and wife Janet, Brazil, and Ronald Eaglin and Tidy Pruitt, Brazil, three brothers: Harry Eaglin Jr., Eugene "Butch" Eaglin and Everett Eaglin, two sisters Jenny Targett and Marie Griffin, 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Services will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Mitchell Cheatham officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday from 9 a.m., until time of services. Donations may be made to the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
