High school students went back to the classrooms Monday to take finals and finish up first semester.
"Considering the situation with the changes in finals, everything has gone as well as can be expected," Northview High School Principal Tim Rayle said. "We like to finish first semester before the holiday break, but this time it couldn't be done."
Due to the weather conditions during the original finals schedule (Dec. 17-19, 2008), school was canceled and finals were postponed.
Second semester is now scheduled to begin Wednesday, and the faculty and staff at Northview is optimistic for the new semester.
"We hope to continue the increase in our graduation rate and academic achievement," he said. "It has been and continues to be our main focus. We have created a student advisory committee from different groups, we are meeting with them and discussing changes for the new semester."
Spring break is scheduled for March 23-27, there will also be no school on April 10, or April 13.
Students can look forward to school on Feb. 16, a scheduled snow make-up day.
"As it currently stands, we will make-up one day, the scheduled snow make-up day and one day on May 22, which would be the students last day," Clay Community School Corporation Supt. Dan Schroeder told The Brazil Times.
If the weather becomes severe or there is a need for school delays, cancellation or early dismissal, additional days missed will be made up at the end of the school year Schroeder said.
Clay City Jr./Sr. High School Principal Jeff Bell was unavailable for comment.
