Auditions set for new theater production

Auditions for the Community Theatre of Clay County's upcoming dinner production of the musical comedy, "Calamity Jane," will take place at 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 15.

The auditions will take place in the theatre building, 8 E. National Ave., Brazil.

The show has a large cast and all are welcome to audition.

In addition to the lead parts of Calamity Jane, Wild Bill Hickock, Lt. Danny Gilmartin and Katie Brown, there are many other essential parts to be filled.

The show also features parts for cowboys, soldiers and their wives, prospectors, chorus girls and many more.

Parts include singing and non-singing roles.

"Calamity Jane" is a musical western set in Deadwood City, S.D. Deadwood City's two most famous peace officers, Calamity Jane and Wild Bill, get involved in helping Henry Miller, the local saloon operator, bring a famous singing star to Deadwood from Chicago.

The show was made into a popular movie in which Doris Day played Calamity Jane and features songs such as "Secret Love," "I Can Do Without You," and "The Black Hills of Dakota."

The dinner theatre show will be directed by T.J. Sneddon and will be presented on March 13-15.
