STAUNTON -- Apparently, a lot of Clay County residents have been eating at the Applebee's restaurant on South 3rd Street in Terre Haute lately.
On Thursday, representatives from the establishment paid a visit to Staunton Elementary School to award first-grade teacher Marci Nussel with their Teacher Of The Month award.
"I was surprised," Nussel said.
For the achievement, Nussel received a plaque from the restaurant in addition to a $15 gift card.
According to restaurant manager Annie Swan, this is the second year the awards have been presented. In addition, Nussel is the first Clay County teacher to receive the honor.
"People that come in to eat nominate the teachers," Swan, a Clay County resident, said. "Whoever gets the most votes each month wins."
Nussel's picture will be on display at the restaurant, located at 2506 S. 3rd St., Terre Haute, for the entire month.
