She was born in Parke County on May 18, 1914, to John Wesley Collings and Gladys Swaim Collings.
She graduated from Marshall High School and attended Indiana State Normal.
She worked as a waitress at Turkey Run Inn and her father's Brazil grocery store, where she met her future husband, Herschel, from Prospect, Ohio.
She married Herschel on Feb. 10, 1937, in Reelsville, and became a homemaker.
Vivian and Herschel were married for 60 years.
She served on the Democrat election board and on various PTO organizations in her son's school. She was an accomplished pianist and passed on her love of music to her sons.
She played for various churches she and her family attended. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and First Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her brother Carroll Collings, her parents, her husband Herschel, her brother-in-law Floyd Green and her daughter-in-law Sharron.
Survivors include her sister Irene Greene Gillispie, Dallas, Texas, and sons John (Jean) and Jerry (Jane), Terre Haute, grandchildren Janna (John) Woodason, South Vienna, Ohio, Shawn (Jim) Blackburn, Okinawa, Japan, Jack (Rebekah) Penry, Terre Haute, Vincent (Melissa) Penry, Oxford, Ct., Amy (Justin) Zoeller, Derby, Ct., and Jay (Samantha) Penry, Colby, Wis., 11 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Pat McPherson and Betty Fout, brother-in-law Jack Penry and several nieces and nephews from Ohio.
Services are 3 p.m., Saturday, at Roselawn Funeral Home, Terre Haute, with Pastor Bernie Jackson officiating.
Burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Visitation is set for 1-3 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.
