Robert Oscar Head "Big O," 67, Brazil, passed away at 1:30 p.m., Jan. 17, 2009, at Union Hospital, following a long battle with cancer.
He was born in Brazil, July 29, 1941, to George and Margaret (Day) Head.
He attended Van Buren High School. His first job was at Midland Chairs in Brazil, where he began working as a janitor.
Through the years, he worked his way to the position of plant manager, where he worked until the plant closed.
He married Katie Bemis, who preceded him in death.
He also worked at Pell's Bargain Mart and at the House of Spirits.
On July 4, 1973, he married Doris Kaelber.
Most recently, he worked for the City of Brazil at the street department as a dispatcher.
"Oc," as he was called by his family, loved gardening and spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Margaret Head, first wife Katie, brothers Wilber Head, Georgie Head, William "Fred" Head, and sisters in childhood Dorothy Head and Katherine Head.
Survivors include his wife Doris, son George Head, daughter Donna Taylor, grandkids Chelsey Nichole Gullett, Robert Lee Head, Kennett M. Taylor VI, siblings Albert Head, Melvin Head and wife Ann, Martha Sutherlin and Walter Head, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
At his request, cremation has been scheduled. His family will have a gathering at his house Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at 5 p.m.
