At least three, possibly a fourth, Clay County residents were injured in a three vehicle accident Thursday evening around 8 p.m.
Although the investigation is in its early stages, Clay County Sheriff's Department Deputy/K-9 Handler Brison Swearingen told The Brazil Times the possibility of failing to yield the right of way may have caused the accident involving a passenger car, small pickup truck and a sports utility vehicle in an area near the intersection of County Road 700 North and State Road 59.
Both lanes of traffic on SR 59 were closed for a brief period while emergency responders worked the accident.
No information was available about the exact number or the identification of the accident victims, who were quickly taken from the scene to St. Vincent Clay Hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries by Transcare.
The Brazil City Police Department provided back-up assistance, while members of Jackson and Posey Township volunteer fire departments and Clay County Search and Rescue also responded at the accident scene.
Swearingen said the accident remains under investigation.
