Clay City falls short in upset bid of Cardinals

BLOOMFIELD -- The Clay City Eels rallied from a double-digit halftime deficit at Bloomfield to take a one-point lead with just 15 seconds left in the game, but lost 45-44 when Sierra Fuller hit the game-winner.

Fuller had a game-high 22 points and filled the stat book with four rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Bloomfield jumped out to a 20-8 lead after just one quarter, but scored just 25 points the remainder of the way as Clay City stepped up its defense. The Eels allowed the Cardinals just 11 second half points while chipping away at the deficit.

The Eels got four 3-pointers from Carmela Roeschlein, who had a team-high 18 points to go with 15 from Brielle Drelick. However, Bloomfield allowed no more than four points from any other Clay City player.

Devyn Bridgewater scored four in the game for the Eels, who drop to 6-11 overall and 1-5 in the SWIAC. Bloomfield improves to 11-5 overall and 5-1 in the conference.
