A Northview High School student was recently heard making a threat against President Barack Obama.
The student made the threat while students were watching Obama being sworn in as the 44th President on Jan. 20.
Clay County Sheriff Mike Heaton told The Brazil Times the student was brought to the Clay County Justice Center for questioning before his department notified the Secret Service. Heaton said the student's parents brought him in to the justice center.
He said his department had to notify the Secret Service whether the threat was viable or not because making a threat against the President is a federal crime.
"We investigated it and informed the Secret Service," Heaton said. "Nothing will be done right now."
No more details were given regarding the case because the student is a juvenile.
However, Heaton said people need to watch what they are saying in all cases.
"People need to realize if you are going to make comments in front of people, somebody is eventually going to report it," Heaton said. "You're going to get looked at.
"People need to realize in this day and age that things are going on in the world and you make a comment about anything, whether it's bringing a gun to school ... When people hear that, they're going to report it."
No charges have been filed against the student who made the threat.
