She was born Aug. 31, 1917, in Clay County, one of 10 children of John I. Girton and Maude Gooch Girton.
She graduated from Van Buren High School.
Mary worked as a telephone operator for Brazil Telephone Service for many years.
She was married to Richard E. French. Dick preceded her in death in 1981.
Mary was saved and baptized in the Calvary Baptist Church and became an active member of the church. She enjoyed helping with Bible School and other activities.
Survivors include her devoted son and daughter-in-law Steve and Kathy French, Brazil, grandchildren Chad French and wife Ruth, Hayley Tucker and husband Kurt and Hildey Moore and husband Elijah, great-grandchildren Chloe, Collin and Baylor French, and Eliana and Gabriella Tucker, brother-in-law Laverle Ward and sister-in-law Katherine Girton, many nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dick French, sisters Josephine Girton and Ruth Ward, brothers Peanut Girton, Don Girton, John Girton, Sam Girton, Ralph Girton, Owen Girton and Talbott Girton.
Services will take place at 3 p.m., Sunday, at French Funeral Home, with Pastors Charlie Parr and Jason Selby officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 1-3 p.m.
Burial will follow the service at Calcutta Cemetery.
