James Thomas "Tom" Brown, 90, Brazil, died at 4:35 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at Cloverleaf Healthcare, Knightsville.

He was born April 7, 1918, in Carbon, as the son of Oreal and Alda Allen Brown.

Following graduation from high school, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served in the Pacific Area during World War II, including combat operations in Okinawa and Ryuku Island.

He was honorably discharged April 4, 1946.

He was previously married to Vallie Walker. He married Anna Huron Jan. 7, 1949. She preceded him in death June 17, 1999.

Mr. Brown was a member of the Teamsters Union and had been employed as a driver and heavy equipment operator for several years at Wabash Valley Asphalt Company. He was a member of Carbon Baptist Church, the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and son Jim Brown.

He is survived by daughters Sue Ann Hicks and Martha Whitaker, sisters Betty Brecht and Catherine "Patti" Williams, brother Lynn Brown and wife Judy, grandchildren Troy Hicks and wife Cindy, Amy Jensen and husband Jeff, Mitch Whitaker and wife Jamy, Craig Whitaker and wife Emilee, Lydia Moody and husband Davis, and Alison Modesitt and husband Chad, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 10 a.m.-noon, Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at Moore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be noon Saturday with Pastor Howard Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery.
