She was born Nov. 22, 1939, in Patriot, Ind., as the daughter of David and Ada Ascherman White.
Following graduation from Madison High School, she attended and graduated from Indiana State University, where she earned a Masters Degree in education.
After years of teaching, she began a career in administration of long-term healthcare facilities.
She retired from Cloverleaf Healthcare, Knightsville. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Brazil, Delta Theta Tau Sorority, Women's Reading Club and United Methodist Church youth groups.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother John White.
Dottie is survived by her husband Ersel "Buz" Burgess, whom she married June 4, 1960, in North Terre Haute. She is also survived by children Pennie S. Brown and husband Jerry, Arlington, Ind., Holly K. Peper and boyfriend Michael Casazza, Brazil, and Brent A. Burgess and wife Claudia, Maryland, sisters Shirley Waggener, Betty Smith, Rosemary Mix, Ruth Felgar and Linda Westby, brother David W. White and grandsons Justin Greenwalt, Brandon Greenwalt and Jared Peper.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Monday, at Moore Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 17, at the funeral home, with pastors Guy Lipkin and Lyle Monnett officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery.
