Disagreeing with President on abortions

Monday, February 16, 2009

To the Editor:

For all those that believed our current president when he said that he "wanted to reduce the number of abortions."

Take a look at how he plans to do this: The Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA).

In July 2008, Obama told a Planned Parenthood audience, "The first thing I'd do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act."

What is FOCA? FOCA is a bill that if passed:

* Will do away with state laws on parental involvement, on partial birth abortion and on all other protections,

* Will compel taxpayer funding of abortions, and

* Will force faith-based hospitals and healthcare facilities to perform abortions.

Let's just look at one aspect of this bill, doing away with parental involvement.

I have a 12-year-old daughter who recently had her ears pierced. For this minor procedure to occur, a parent had to be present and was required to read three pages of information and sign each page saying that the ear piercing could be done.

Yet, our president does not think something as serious as an abortion demands the same parental involvement.

If you are as concerned about this issue as I am, please sign the First FOCA Petition at www.fightfoca.com.
