CLAY CITY -- The Clay City Eels remained on a roll Saturday afternoon, claiming a one-point win over visiting Eastern (Greene), 51-50.

The victory propels Clay City to a 3-2 record in the Southwestern Indiana Conference and gave the Thunderbirds their first loss in the conference.

Logan Higgins knocked home a pair of free throws in the final seconds of the game as Clay City hit 15-of-20 from the line. Eastern missed a potential tying 3-pointer, but rebounded the miss for a score that wasn't enough as the buzzer sounded.

Braxton Griffith sank a trio of 3-pointers on the way to 11 points for the Eels and Will Kennedy led the way with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Jordan Defore dropped in seven points for the Eels, who won for the seventh-straight game.

Clay City (12-5 overall) plays Tuesday at Linton in a game that counts toward both the TRC and SWIAC conferences beginning at 6 p.m.
