Harmony United Methodist Women met in Fellowship Hall at the church on Jan. 26.
New President Sheila Termeer opened the meeting with prayer. Gail Roach distributed the minutes. Barbara Pell was the hostess and served a delicious ham and cheese soup, fruit, and cookies. Gail tried to show a DVD on the Methodist Women's worldwide organization but the player was not cooperative. That lesson will be used for the next meeting.
Debbie Gottsche and Sheila Termeer won the door prizes. Barbara had pretty Valentine gift bags for them. They each received heart-shaped scoops, Hershey kisses, dishtowels, and a note pad.
A sheet was distributed so that ladies could volunteer for lessons and hostess duties for the year. Several folks were absent so the list will be completed at the next meeting.
Church Secretary Marsha Nicoson had left notes regarding the RADA knife orders. These were discussed. Gail will help Marsha when the next order is sent and when that order arrives to prepare for distribution.
The Basket Auction was discussed again but tabled for another month.
Treasurer Carolyn Kumpf had a school board meeting but wanted us to discuss raising the dues to $2 per month. It is getting difficult to have enough funds for our regular contributions.
We generally send $150 to Clothe-a-Child, $150 to the Lebanon Children's Home, and $25 to the church mission for each month. Additional donations are made as fundraisers permit.
The Nativity needs a final coat of paint when weather permits. The figures have white Superbond but not the finish coat. Some were damaged during the bad weather. Perhaps a Saturday work session could be planned this spring.
Hostesses for the February and March meetings will need to plan for table decorations. Mayme Johnson-Cox will not be available to do those two months but will do the April meeting.
A sheet was discussed that needed to be returned to the District United Methodist Women. It was decided to purchase the United Methodist Women's 2009 Program Book. This will help us in keeping our lessons current with other organizations throughout the country and working on common goals of all the women.
We still need to get a scrapbook started and we still need to know if we can save money by switching to another checking account.
Ladies attending the meeting that were not already mentioned were Kenda Dierdorf and Erie Bell. The next meeting will be Monday, Feb. 23 in Fellowship Hall at Harmony United Methodist Church. All ladies are invited to attend. Meetings start at 7 p.m.
Possible topics for discussion include the Basket/Pie Auction, raising dues, Mother/Daughter Banquet theme, RADA knives, and the 2009 Program Book, prayer chain, church directory, prayer and self-denial.
