Claude William "Bill" Selby, 87, Brazil, died at 8:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at his residence.

He was born April 17, 1921, in Zanesville, Ohio, as the son of Ruben and Fern Wright Selby.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army as a Light Tank Crewman.

He married Opal Modesitt, who has preceded him in death.

He had worked as a welder/pipe fitter and was a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Union No. 157.

He was a brother in the Church of Christ in Brazil and enjoyed being outdoors fishing and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Opal, daughter Janice Selby, sister Betty Winn, brother Raymond Selby, grandson Darren Lucas and great-grandson Tray Pierce.

He is survived by daughters Norma Wylie (James), Marilyn Hinkle, and Delores Strain (Larry), all of Brazil, brother Robert Selby (Phyllis), Kokomo, 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren, five great-great-great-grandchildren, and second wife Eva Selby.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 27, at Moore Funeral Home, with Brother James Porter officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
