Daffodil Days extended

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

While Mother Nature seems unable to decide if it will be warm or cold spring, her weather influence has caused the American Cancer Society (ACS) to extend its annual Daffodil Days campaign another week.

Apparently, the recent snowstorm in Washington has caused the organization's daffodil supplier some problems, thus delaying deliveries originally scheduled for March 16 in the Wabash Valley area.

However, Wabash Valley residents have until Friday, March 20, to place orders for daffodils, with a new delivery date scheduled to take place March 23-27.

Brazil Times General Manager Lynne Llewellyn confirmed that order forms would still be available at The Brazil Times' office during normal business hours Monday-Friday.

According to ACS Communications Specialist Laura Barnard, the daffodils will be packed and shipped immediately to the area, making them "the freshest daffodils we've ever received."

For a $10 donation, supporters will receive a bouquet of 10 fresh-cut daffodils, while a $15 donation will have the flowers delivered in a vase.

Supporters can also donate $25 to send an anonymous "Gift of Hope." For their donation, a bouquet of 10 flowers in a vase will be delivered to a cancer patient in active treatment at local hospitals, nursing homes and other patient care facilities.

Supporters and businesses also have the option of purchasing a case of 50 bunches of 10 flowers each for $500. Those who participate at this level will be recognized as an official sponsor of Daffodil Days.
