Additional charges could be filed pending an ongoing investigation against a Brazil man following a hit-and-run incident.

Gregory Julbert, 42, Brazil, turned himself into officials with the Brazil City Police Department Tuesday evening following an incident earlier that day in which he allegedly struck 18-year-old Zach Jones, Brazil, while driving a 1994 white Buick Skylark.

The incident allegedly took place in the parking lot of the Dirtbuster Carwash, located at the intersection of Vandalia Street and United States 40 (National Avenue).

According to information provided by BCPD Sgt. Dennis Archer, witnesses reported Julbert drove through the parking lot of the establishment and struck Jones, who was riding a bicycle, before fleeing the scene.

Julbert faces preliminary charges of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, a class A misdemeanor. He bonded out of the Clay County Justice Center later Tuesday evening.

Archer said Jones came to the department Wednesday and said he had contusions and abrasions on his left arm, shoulder and head area. According to Archer, Jones received treatment at St. Vincent Clay Hospital and was released Tuesday.

Archer added the investigation is ongoing, saying recent information indicated there might have been an altercation between the two the night before the incident.

"We're still looking into aspects of the incident that took place the night before," Archer said, adding his department was also waiting on final medical records from Jones.

Archer said the preliminary charges could be enhanced to felony charges and additional charges could be filed at the conclusion of the investigation
