A Terre Haute woman sustained minor injuries during a single-vehicle accident on State Road 46 near Center Point Friday morning.
Shortly before 6 a.m., 911 dispatchers were notified of an accident in an area approximately three-miles east of Center Point on SR 46.
When members of the Bowling Green and Center Point volunteer fire departments and Clay County Search and Rescue arrived on the scene, they confirmed the extreme damage to the front of the vehicle had wrenched the front doors shut and partially trapped the driver under the dashboard.
AirEvac was initially dispatched, but was later disregarded when officials were able to remove her from the vehicle.
According to Clay County Sheriff's Deputy Sgt. Josh Clarke, Elizabeth Latta, 25, reported she was traveling eastbound while attempting to pass a red semi tractor/trailer when the accident happened. She said it drifted into her lane, forcing Latta off the road and causing her to crash into a wooded area.
Experiencing pain from possible leg and abdominal injuries, Latta was taken by TransCare to St. Vincent Clay Hospital for treatment and later released.
"We were unable to locate the semi Latta described," Clarke told The Brazil Times. "If anyone was traveling in the area at the time of the accident, and has information about this case, please contact the department."
