Five Northview High School Business Professionals of America have qualified for the National Conference in Dallas, Texas, May 5-10. The Northview High School Business Professionals of America have done it again as five students advance to the National Competition.

"Only the top three placements in judged events or the top five in test events advance," Northview BPA sponsor Beth Moody said.

The five representatives from Northview are: Chase Shields and Shawnie Brewer, who placed second in Computer Animation Team, Hannah VanHorn, who placed third in Advanced Interview Skills, Jennifer Price, who placed third in Word Processing and Kalieb Holley, who placed fifth in C++ Programming.

Honorable mention, which was not high enough to advance to nationals were Chase Shields placed sixth in Advanced Spreadsheets and Allison Stearley, who placed seventh in Payroll Accounting.

"Allison Stearley, Hannah VanHorn, Sunni Raines, and Angie Elder earned statesman Torch Awards for outstanding service," Moody said. "If these students earn enough points, they may also advance to nationals."

Nineteen members from Northview attended conference along with cosponsors Kenda Dierdorf and Moody. While at the conference, they listened to motivational speakers, attended leadership sessions and interacted with other students from the district and throughout Indiana.

"Allison did a wonderful job as a member of the state officer team," Moody said. "She was a professional leader, speaker, and role model."

The biggest obstacle for the BPA is earning $4,000 for the student expenses to attend the conference in Dallas, Texas, May 5-10.

One of the fundraising activities includes Adult Education Computer Classes at Northview sponsored by the BPA.

"The students are working on a few fund raising projects, but we are open to suggestions," Moody said.
