He was born Jan. 13, 1922, in Vigo County, as the son of Jess W. and Flora LeMay Redifer. He graduated from Staunton High School with the Class of 1940. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army Air Corp with the 15th Air Unit in Italy from 1942 until his honorable discharge. He flew 19 bombing missions over Germany and on the 19th mission his aircraft was shot down. He was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He married Mary Francis Rohrig Aug. 15, 1945 in Terre Haute.
Jesse worked for 40 years with New York Central Railroad, retiring in 1982 from Conrail. He then worked as a greeter at Wal-Mart from 1991-2007. He was a member of VFW, American Legion, BPOE Elks, Honorary Kentucky Colonel, Retired Railroaders Association, and Masonic Lodge No. 409. He attended Jackson St. Wesleyan Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary France Redifer; two sisters, Beulah Jones and Jeanene Redifer; grandson, Jack Egener and granddaughter, Misty Newport.
He is survived by three daughters, Linda Egener, Brenda Roeschlein and husband Larry, and Wanda Rose and husband Dan, all of Brazil; one son, Jess K. Redifer and wife Linda, Brazil; two sisters, Norma Galbraith and husband Herb and Marjorie Randolph and husband Don; special friend, Sherry Stewart; grandchildren, Angie Freeman and husband Rob, A-Manda Shepherd and husband Ryan, Jessica Gannon and husband Luke, Ashley Hayes and husband Micah, Derek M. Rose, and Dustin Hopkins; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson, and brother-in-law, Jim Jones.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Friday, March 20, at Moore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Clearview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
