Postal Service to host Passport Fair March 28

Thursday, March 19, 2009

Post offices throughout the state will host Passport Fairs Saturday, March 28, to provide passport information to U.S. citizens and to accept passport applications.

The Postal Service is joining the Department of State in celebrating "Passport Day in the USA," a national passport acceptance and outreach event.

The Brazil Post Office, 27 W. National Ave., Brazil, will participate in the event. Those interested may obtain information on passports or turn in passport applications to the office from noon-3 p.m., March 28.

On June 1, 2009, U.S. citizens must present a passport book, passport card, or other travel documents approved by the U.S. government to enter the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda at land borders and sea ports of entry.

Information on the cost and how to apply for a passport book and/or passport may be accessed at www.usps.com/passport/ or www.travel.state.gov. U.S. citizens may also obtain passport information by phone, in English and Spanish, by calling the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778.

In 2008, the Postal Service accepted 8.5 million passport applications.
