North Clay wrestlers wrap up season with wins

The North Clay wrestling team capped its season with a strong finish as it hosted West Vigo, Sullivan and Terre Haute South on Thursday evening.

Though no team scores were officially kept, the Knights had eight wrestlers with two or more wins with no losses.

North Clay's Shane Ryan wrestled to a perfect 3-0 record in the varsity matches and also picked up a victory in an exhibition match.

Ryan scored a win via pin in the opening bout against Sullivan and then followed that up with a 5-2 decision against Terre Haute South before ending the night with an 8-3 victory over West Vigo's Trojans. He also claimed an exhibition win over South.

Jackson Copper was also a winner in four matches, including a 55 second fall in his first match, a 13-0 victory over South and a 24 second fall in his final match. He also won by fall in his exhibition bout.

Ryan Head won all three of his matches in the 4-way, downing Sullivan's Nathan Graham by pin in 1:22 to open the night and then tech. falling his South foe and claiming a hard fought 4-3 decision in the finale.

Larry Shaffer claimed the night's quickest fall, besting his opponent in his first match in under 10 seconds. He went on to win by fall in 2:43 and 1:25 for a perfect 3-0 mark.

Kyle Winn was another three match victor, scoring a fall in 2:39 to open the tourney and then tallying a pin in 1:20 against South and taking an exhibition bout by fall as well.

Kyle Shaffer took a pin in just 12 seconds to open the night at 105 pounds and scored an exhibition win as well versus Sullivan. He wrapped up his night by defeating his Terre Haute South opponent by fall in 19 seconds.

Winning two matches in the meet were Dylan Thompson and Chandler Damon.

Thompson won his first match in only 15 seconds and took down his West Vigo opponent in only 36 seconds for the victory.

Damon started the evening against Terre Haute South and won by fall in 1:56 and followed that up with a pin against West Vigo in only 20 seconds.

Single match winners without a loss for the Knights, included Garrett Modesitt, Jesse Miller, Tyler Cox, Zach Williams and Dylan Green.

Jacob Hendrich went 2-1 in his matches, ending the night with a 13-3 victory over West Vigo.
