Sexual misconduct charges filed

Tuesday, March 24, 2009

Shawn R. Krantz
After a three-month ongoing investigation, a Brazil man was recently arrested amid allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor last fall.

On Tuesday, Shawn R. Krantz, 34, Brazil, was taken into custody on an arrest warrant for formal felony charges of class C sexual misconduct with a minor and class D child solicitation.

According to the probable cause affidavit written by Brazil City Police Det. Clint McQueen on file at Clay County Circuit Court, the charges stem from an alleged incident involving a 14-year-old victim that took place at an area cemetery in late October 2008.

Krantz is currently incarcerated at the Clay County Justice Center without bond awaiting formal court proceedings per the court calendar.

If convicted of a class C felony, the highest charge filed against Krantz at this time, the advisory sentence issued by the state for a guilty conviction/plea agreement ranges from 2-8 years in prison and potential fines up to $10,000.

why is it not child molestation? isn't the real question.. the real question is ...Why isn't it Death by hanging?

Some child molesters want to go to school functions, and some might work for the city,or work beside you. they should have to wear a sign to protect our town.

This is a sickness!

Brazil is out of control....Lets get a grip on the child and sex offenders! Make them accountasble for their actions.

I agree why is it not child molestation? Also why did it take 5 months for an arrest?

Just put him in with the general population at the state prison, they will take care of him there! They don't like child molesters!

Do NOT blame the children! What are you thinking? Kids may dress differently than they did years ago, but the adults MUST take responsibility for their actions, that is why they are the adults. The kids don't ask to be abused. They just want to be kids!!

"This is what happens when young girls dress and act like what they see on tv, then you bring in a guy that is hooked on porn."

Yea no1, blame the 14 year old. BTW, where did you get these facts?

Does not matter how a child is dressed. Child Molestating is just that. To people who would molestate a child dont matter if there dressed like a porn star or mother Therssea. He is an adult, how can you in your right mind blame a child.

Lets get a grip on the child and sex offenders! I am saying Child (molestation) crimes and sex crimes , I was not blaming the children.

Indiana State Statute only charges child molestation (35-42-4-3) when children under 14 years of age are the victim. If the victim is 14 and older the charge is sexual conduct with a minor (35-42-4-9). That shouldn't be the question though. The real question is how many more girls are out there that this guy has molested.

I dont understand why people charged with child molestation don't face more time in prison. Seems like a slap on the wrist to me.

I am a little disturbed that anyone would attempt to blame this event on the child. I know that these girls are wanting to dress like their idols (Britney Spears, Hannah Montana, and Beyonce), but it is up to the mothers and fathers to tell their children not to dress that way. I am a father of 3 girls. You will never catch one of them walk out of my house dressed like them. I don't think that it is fair to blame the child. The blame goes to the sick individual that is out stalking our children. I agree also that the penalty for child molesting or sexual misconduct with a mionor is too lenient. For those that are concerned with your childs safety in the neighborhood there is a web site that you can go to to register to get email updates to let you know if there are any of the predators in your neighboorhood. That site is:

I salute the men and women in uniform for our city. Good job all!!

Stand up and protect your children. Take charge and do your parental duties to ensure that they aren't dress to appeal to these people.

I run a Fatherhood Initaiative program in Brazil. If you have any questions or further wish to discuss this my email is:

Child molesters can not be reformed and if you don't believe it just ask your mental health professionals. There may be one in a trillion.

The best thing to do as punishment is to put them on an island with other child offenders and just drop bread and water to them since we can't tatoo them on their foreheads "I am a child molester" following their time in prison, which is way too short. They make me sick and for all of you out there who feel this is too much of a punishment, just wait until it happens to one of your children and see how you feel about it. Lives are destroyed by this dastardly crime and the punishment we have now is way too soft on the pervert.

I think that people should get a grep and get the right personinstead of blaming other people
