ROCKVILLE -- Mark the calendar, bring the lawn chairs and plan to spend Saturday, June 20, on the historic courthouse square in Rockville as the county honor its service men and women.
Indiana National Guard members and active duty military, men and women will be honored for their sacrifices on behalf of America during the past six years.
In addition, all veterans from past wars and conflicts will be honored as well.
The day has been designated as Parke County Soldier Appreciation Day 2009.
Beginning at 10:30 a.m., a parade will kick off from Beechwood Park in Rockville and travel through the residential area to the courthouse square, where at 11:15 a.m., a program will take place.
The program will include music, short speeches and presentations in honor of current service personnel and veterans.
Participating in the event are various veteran organizations in Parke County, both town and county officials and a host of churches and other volunteers.
Families who have loved ones who have served in active duty are urged to contact the event committee with their name and address so they might be invited to participate.
The committee is contacting the U.S. Army, Air National Guard, Air Force, Army Reserve, Marine Corps. Reserve, Navy Reserve, Local Veterans Affairs Office and the community for help in identifying and locating individuals who have served.
