Fillmore residents earns NAAB award for service

ABS Global, Inc., recently announced the National Association of Animal Breeders (NAAB) recognized Fillmore resident Steven Cash with the Quarter Century Award for 25 years of service in the AI industry.

Cash has spent the past 25 years serving customers throughout West Central Indiana as a representative of ABS Global, Inc., (formerly known as American Breeders Service).

He provides customers with a variety of services, including the sale of Beef and Dairy genetics, Professional AI Technician service, breeding supplies and nitrogen service.

He began breeding cattle using artificial insemination in August 1975, and has trained more than 100 beef and dairy producers to breed their own cattle.

He has also served as a GMS Evaluator, Indiana Beef Specialist and has been recognized as runner-up District Representative of the Year on two occasions.

He currently covers 11 counties in West Central Indiana, selling semen and supplies as well as breeding nearly 500 cows and heifers each year. A 1975 graduate of Purdue University, he began his career as an Agriculture Education teacher working at Tipton, Clinton Central, North Putnam, North Decatur and Greencastle.

In 1978, he went into a partnership with his father on a Holstein operation east of Greencastle. Since 1990, he has served Putnam County in a number of organizations.

He served as fair board president, local DHIA and Holstein Association President and currently serves as secretary of the South Putnam School Corporation School board, vice president of Putnam County Farm Bureau, Inc., President and founder of the South Putnam Community Education foundation as well as a local 4-H leader.

His wife Patti has worked by his side for 33 years while raising their three children. Dan currently lives in South Carolina. Stacia Luh and husband Adrian live in New York with new grandbaby Sariah. Jennifer Foxx and husband Brandon reside in Cloverdale.
